Remote Production – The Greatest Challenge
As the CEO of a leading sourcing and purchasing firm, one of the greatest challenges I faced in my work was the transition from manufacturing in a nearby factory to one located thousands of miles away. Once I transitioned my manufacturing process to China, I experienced a lack of control in the manufacturing process. The most important control points I needed included:
1. Making sure that the raw materials comply with the specs presented by the customer.
2. Approving production set-up before mass production begins to prevent costly errors.
3. Losing track of production status. Completion notifications and quality assessment were provided with significant delay.
4. Ensuring that my customers get what they ordered with no surprises when they open the containers.

How did I overcome all these Challenges?
The QA process solutions I tried:
1. Visiting the factories myself. This cost too much money and wasted too much time.
2. Using the services of my supplier's contact person. I realized soon enough that the person is always loyal to his own boss, which led to problems due to a selective information flow.
3. Hiring my own workers in China. They did not have employee-level loyalty to me because they got bonuses from the factory owners.
4. Contracting with quality control companies. They provided long reports with mostly irrelevant information. While they had some value, they charge expensive prices upward of 1800$, since they visit the factory 4-6 times, and charge 300$ per one visit.

None of these options worked for me, so I created Coze.
